Is Blogging Still Relevant in 2023?

Blogging has been a popular money-making method online for quite a while. But with the rising popularity of YouTube, podcasts, and social media influencers, some are questioning: has blogging lost its relevance?

Let’s take a trip back 5 or 10 years. If making money online was your goal, starting a blog was the suggested path. But in my own journey as a blogger, which began in 2007, I could see how the landscape was shifting. Social networks, Google’s algorithm, and audience growth strategies have all dramatically transformed.

But even with these changes, blogging remains alive and well in 2023. While strategies may have changed, the opportunities remain. In fact, the potential rewards are even greater – more on that later.

While personal blogging might not be the trend it once was, with many replacing it with social media, blogs aimed at income generation are still thriving.

In 2023, there’s an astounding number of blogs – over 600 million out of the 1.9 billion websites that exist! These blogs crank out about 6 million posts every day.

Data suggests that between 60% to 80% of people read blogs daily, hinting at the medium’s continued relevance. Modern blogs often disguise themselves as articles, meaning readers may not even realize they’re interacting with a blog!

Even with video gaining popularity, written content hasn’t lost its appeal. Blogs are an effective way to reach your audience, and more importantly, this is content that people are still actively consuming.

Blogging’s Evolution: Still Relevant with a Makeover
Blogging today differs significantly from the past. The big focus now is on quality over quantity, better user experience, social media shifts, growth of video content, fading blog comments, updating old content and increased competition. But, with higher competition, comes a higher payoff.

Here’s my two cents on blogging in 2023 based on my own experiences:

1. Emphasise on specialization: I focus my blogs on specific topics.
2. Every post has an objective: I don’t write just for the sake of generating content.
3. Quality is king: I ensure to only share quality content on my sites.
4. Prioritize organic search traffic: I largely focus on search traffic.
5. Extensive keyword research: I make keyword research a bulk of my planning.
6. Assume new readers: I write assuming readers are not familiar with my past content.
7. No fix timing for posts: Gone are the days I stick to a publication schedule.

Advice for Successful Blogging in 2023 and Beyond
In a nutshell, focus on your topics, create valuable content with a goal, keep your content up to date, and, most importantly, prepare for a long haul.

Blogging still remains relevant, profitable, and a great avenue to express and attract a plentiful readership despite the popularity of visual content. The key factor is being adaptable to the changing landscapes of online content creation.
